As a member of the Advisory Board of Alarabi Investments, Hugh Sandeman will provide guidance and oversight on fund raising and relations with investors, and on the capital structure, financings and exit strategies of portfolio companies. He will also be available on request to join the board or committees of portfolio companies. Hugh brings 30 years of experience as an international corporate financier, based in New York, Tokyo, London, Frankfurt and most recently specializing in India.
After starting in corporate finance with Merrill Lynch in New York and Tokyo, Hugh worked as a Managing Director at Dresdner Kleinwort, the UK/German investment bank, advising large corporate clients on acquisitions and capital market transactions in 15 countries. Before becoming Senior Advisor to Langham Capital, an advisory firm based in Delhi, Hugh was a Managing Director and head of India coverage for Jefferies, and head of business development for India at the London Stock Exchange. He is currently Senior Independent Director of JP Morgan Indian Investment Trust PLC, and has served on the boards of various companies. He is also a Visiting Senior Fellow and Head of Global Strategies at LSE IDEAS, the foreign policy think tank of the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Hugh studied for his BA in politics and economics at Oxford University, was a Kennedy Scholar at Harvard, and obtained an MSc in sociology from the London School of Economics, before becoming a journalist at The Economist magazine for nine years. He enjoys reading, music and keeping fit, in addition to voluntary work, including his role as a board member of an international NGO.
